TOXIC EFFECTS OF TWO NEONICOTINOID INSECTICIDES, THIAMETHOXAM AND ACETAMIPRID, ON THE SWISS ALBINO MICE
Prof. of Pesticides, Fac. of Agric., Menoufia Univ.
Abstract
The objectives of this study were to study the toxic effects of two neonicotinoids insecticides, acetamiprid and thiamethoxam, on the Swiss albino mice through:
1) Determine acute toxicity (for 24 hours) of both pesticides and monitor behavioral alternations of animals exposed to different doses for 14 days. 2) Study the effects of sub-lethal dose (1/20,1/50 and 1/100 of LD50) of acetamiprid and thiamethoxam on physiologicalaspects (behavioral alternations and body weight), haematological parameters (RBCs,HGB,HCT, MCV, HCT,LYM,MID, WBCs, MCH and platelets) 3) Biochemical analysis (AST, ALT, albumin, total protein, bilirubin and cholesterol) in liver, (creatinine; urea, and uric acid) in kidney . Antioxidants and oxidative stress parameters were also determined in serum of treated animals. 4) Examine the possible histopathological alternations in liver, kidney, lung and tests tissues of animals exposed to sub lethal doses of acetamiprid and thiamethoxam. 5) Study selenium effect as a protective source of antioxidant to enhance toxic effects caused by repeated sub lethal doses of acetamiprid and thiamethoxam.
